what the title says.

Can I drop in an SLX rear cassette in place of the XT.

I have full XT everything else, just wondered if there would be any issues.

money is a factor, hence the question, else I would just get XT again

alternatively does anyone have a second hand set floating around that is still usable :D

thanks

you can replace the cassette with what ever you can get your hands on, Shimano or Sram as long as its the same speed cassette (9, 10 etc) you can even replace with a deore cassette, will just be heavier and slight different design to the XT

...serious answer... yes you can. As long as the number of sprockets is the same. Heck, you can even put a SRAM cassette on. Try match your tooth count though, or you might have to shorten/lenghten your chain.

I have just bought an xt 10 spd cassette from Cwc for 580... Awesome deal for a quality cassette, pretty affordable too, check it out :)

Isn't the SLX cassette made of harder wearing metal than the XT too? Meaning it should last longer although slightly heavier?

Go find the heaviest steel cassette you can find. It will last multiple times as long as an expensive one for a fraction of the price and the weight cost of two mouthfulls of water...

I commute, 's what I do.
