Hey guys,

So I was cleaning and re-greasing my GXP BB this morning and spotted this....

Is this the end of my steed? She is insured but want to make sure that I am not seeing things that aren't there.

Also, what is the worst that can happen when riding?

May just be a paint crack. The paint tends to be put under stress right over those weld joints. I know the old looks with carbon tubes and alu lugs have the same issue.

But get it checked at an lbs. They'll probably know best.

Good luck!

Does look like a crack, rather unusual place for it to occur, may just be the paint cracking but to be honest doesn't look that encouraging.

Have you googled the frame make and model to see if it happens in that spot?

Just remember with insurance you only get paid out after an incident which results in you suffering a defined loss. This kind of crack would most likely would fall under wear n tear which insurance does not typically cover unless you can link it to an incident that resulted in the crack.

When your bike is more than 2 years old a crack in the frame = happy times = new frame = lots of smiles

Don't try claim it off insurance as wear and tear. They'll repudiate it as non insurance covered. If anything, tell them you crashed and this caused it.

Been down this road.
