Giant after sale service not so big

I bought a Giant Anthem Advanced X 29er last year from my local bike shop (2013 model).

Last weekend I bent the front wheel and according to the local wheel building specialist the rim should be replaced... no problem there.

This Anthem uses the Giant P-XCR1 wheel set. The problem is that the local suppliers has no stock of this rim, or a replacement wheel for that matter. To make matters worse they can not commit to this rim being in stock in South Africa in the next 3 months.

How can the parts availability be so bad for a company as big as Giant?

So my options are:

a) wait three month (with no satisfaction guarrantee)

b) Fit something like a DT Swiss rim and run unmatched wheels (even if is just the decals)

c) purchase a complete replacement aftermarket wheelset.

Either way Giant owner's beware since OEM replacement parts for your bikes might not be available.

Just for starters, why should they replace a wheel that you bent? A frame breaking I can understand, not a wheel which could be purely down to yourself.

Edit: My bad, I think I misread. Are you wanting Giant to replace the wheel?

huh... sorry Trackjack but im failing to see the problem... get another rim that will fit the spokes you have and just tadaaa....

Giant is on the whole 650b vibe so its understandable from my point of view,

try waiting over 2 months for a replacement scott frame.... now thats .... not so big on service.

How long have you had the bike? I am suprised they would replace a wheel after say 3 months use or something?

The line where he says that a local wheel builder said that Giant should be replaced?

Im surprised they are willing to replace the wheel at all.

I know a guy who purchased a bulletproof rim, laced it up with very nice spokes onto a fantastic hub, went out and bent the rim 25 minutes into the ride. No manufacturer warranty, alu is alu and if it was straight and now it isnt and the weld is in tact, youre on your own..... If the weld snapped on the 1st ride I can understand after market service but bending a wheel is usually owner failure.

Why dont you try the classifieds here on the hub? I have seen a lot of Giant wheels for sale.......

. If that's the case. That's pretty ridiculous. I doubt it though. I'm mean. Really. That would be...... HAHAHAHAHAHA

That is a bummer...

Apart from the wheel issue; how you liking the bike?

I'm thinking of getting an Anthem in the next month or two but still undecided between 29er or 650b, sorry... 27.5.

I KNOW it's down to personal preference and I'm not one to make "decision by committee" but always good to get others opinion.
