Nothing to get excited over at all - probably the smallest 94.7 Expo I've seen.

Spoke to an LBS owner yesterday - he's not attending and says the feeling amongst most local LBS's is that its an expensive exercise.

Got my entries, zero queues at 5pm which was pleasant surprise. Admittedly the tablet scanning definitely needs some refinement, no reason to have a tablet to scan, a phone would have been better. Alot of time wasted fiddling with the tablet to scan etc

I thought it was strange (at the time) that I got a yellow number on my 10th event instead of after completing 10.

Maybe they've corrected it

This year will be my tenth and I got a yellow number today too.

Any updates on whether the roads have been finished, a bit of dry weather surely helped today ... ?

Picked up my number this morning. The new system didnt really make the process faster than last year.

About 15 people in front of me and it took about 15 minutes, so not bad

Then I went for a drive around the start of the new route

They are still busy tarring some of the sections of the road from the start to Mnandi Drive.

Still gravel where you turn onto Mnandi drive but a team of 20 guys were slaving away there.

3km from there to Summit Road, nice gradual climb, will definitely hurt.

Its relatively flat from there with a small climb again at around 6-7km and the last small climb before you turn off Summit Road.

The climb up to the M1 will also hurt.

Going to be a tough first 25km

They are still busy building the road - I live nearby and can hear the trucks offloading.. Gonna be tight.

The briefing for the hospitality area took place today, on site.

The simple answer to your question is "No"

I thought the Expo hit a new low this year. Definitely the smallest one I have seen in my 5 years of going there.

OK, so to just clear the 10+ special colour entry up...

This year I am riding number 10... Went straight to the special numbers counter (thought I would take a chance), my number was there and delivered within 2 minutes (maybe I just got lucky).

Oh, and yes, it is yellow.

The expo itself is/was a bit of a joke. Full of nutritional supplements and go faster powders/drinks.

But I mean, 99% of all entrants have been training on their preferred supplement, and no amount of sweet talking sales pitch should make anyone switch brands at this late stage.

Solomons has the biggest stand, and pretty much the only stand with bikes.

To ogle over two wheeled porn used to be my biggest pulling factor to the expo, but there really is very little to see. I must admit I preferred the SCC as a venue too.

Even the Bar One girls were M.I.A. as was the biltong dude and his wife
