BrianMTB Posted April 9, 2014 Share Hi Hubbers I managed to pull the wool over my wife's eyes long enough to get her to agree to me buying a new bike . I'm going for the Scott Spark 910 and am considering changing the stock Syncros wheels for Mavic Crossmax ST's. Not sure this is necessary though - can anyone advise me on the Syncros wheels? Would I benefit significantly with the Mavic's? The specs: Syncros XR2.0 rims with DT Swiss Aero Comp spokes and Syncros XR2.0 CL / 12 x 142 / RWS hub (made by DT Swiss). I weigh 90kgs and do exclusively cross-country/marathons. Any advice would be appreciated.
gummibear Posted April 9, 2014 Share The ST's are pretty light at sub 1600grams and they are tubeless.Spokes are expensive and can be hard to get hold of. They are great wheels.
BrianMTB Posted April 9, 2014 Share Thanks Gummi, 1600g is a lot less than 1800 (the Syncros).
jcza Posted April 9, 2014 Share With all due respect at 90kgs the 200g difference is not going to make a difference Bizkit031
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted April 9, 2014 Share With all due respect at 90kgs the 200g difference is not going to make a difference But at 90kg's the syncros's legendary ability to bend not only themselves, but light, sound and the entire universe into a neatly shaped pretzel when confronting a 2 inch drop would make a difference. Get the wheels bro. Edited April 9, 2014 by cpt armpies mayhem BrianMTB and Vangar

BrianMTB Posted April 9, 2014 Share With all due respect at 90kgs the 200g difference is not going to make a difference 200g will make a big difference in respect of additional rotational weight. Slower acceleration, cornering etc, especially on a 29er. But I take your point too :-), although at 187cm I can't do too much about it

Capricorn Posted April 9, 2014 Share If you looking for a robust do it all rim, the SLR is nOT the choice you want to make. the ST can take stupid levels of abuse. Edited April 9, 2014 by Capricorn TopFuel

I would steer clear of the race golds, and even the crests at 90kg. The crests are rated at 85kg max and the golds are about 75kg. My father is 72kg and has bent a set of race golds. He's now on crests and they are ok for him. I would say that if the OP is looking at ztr at all, look at the arch ex's.

BigToe Posted April 9, 2014 Share Hi, the first thing I did was take off the Syncros and put on Crossmax ST, but I bought the Spark 920 and I weigh 97kg's.To be honest I rate the Mavic's highly (if maintained) and they are strong. I can't comment on the Syncros because I spent 50k's on them at most. So they are used as back up.And the Syncros on the 920 were not tubeless, thats my main motivation for changing.
