Beam Rack or Similar

Anybody use one of these?

I'm getting a bit fed up carrying stuff on my back.

The Topeak and Thule solutions look quite neat.

I go to Europe a lot and see all manner of racks but these seem the neatest to me.

Opinions, ideas etc would be appreciated.

Cheers.

From what i've heard they are ok, but if you go over any bumps it wobbles like mad and you can't put nearly as much weight on a beam rack as you can on a normal rack, and a normal rack you can generally pick up for cheaper as well, your bike just has to have mounts for it.

If you running a dual susser then it probably wont have mounts so you will only be able to use the beam rack!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply!

I thought as much. Unfortunately I don't have rack mounts on my commuter, so a beam style rack is one of the few solutions.

I think I might end up with the Arkel Randonneur as it mounts to the seat rails as well as the seat post and seems quite rigid.

Thanks again for the suggestions. The J.Pak stuff is interesting.

I'll be in Dallas soon so an hour's flight to Denver could be worthwhile....

  • 8 months later...

I use one on my racer for my everyday commute. Very handy thing. I don't put too much weight on it as it has a tolerance of only 14kgs or something, but really I can't recommend a rack enough for commuting.
