Candy vs Egg Beaters vs SPD Pedals. GO! (for MTB)

It seems there are pros and cons to both of these systems. But which are the best to live with day to day, easiest to use and clean and overall better and more reliable performance.

I'm upgrading to a new bike and considering upgrading from Shimano SPD pedals to Egg beaters.

Advice?

The crank brothers pedals are high maintenance, requiring a rebuild at least annually. The SPD are bulletproof, so if you're a fit and forget type of guy, SPD are for you.

After every ride now i clean my SPD pedals well and apply new lube. (hate any squeaks). Would this not relate well if i bought a crank brothers pedal?

I stay in the garden route so generally muddy conditions.

Always good to keep them clean and lubed.

If you get the crank brothers try get the grease port tool so you can keep them greased. Rebuild kits are a rip off.

Its good practice to maintain any pedal annually at least, Crank Bro's just seems to be more prone to wear and tear

If you go SPD, 520 or better.

I've killed some 505's in two months

The SPD are bulletproof

totally agree..

never, ever, had issues with SPDs...

that being said, I just ordered a pair of green Candys to match a SS build I'm busy with... :whistling:

SPDs... I'm still running these and believe me they are about to be come fashionable again once the #enduro crowd get hold of them! ;)

Don't lube them, don't grease them. Never rebuilt them. They don't squeak, they don't worry, they just keep going without any fuss and if I need to put a foot down I'm back up and peddling without a blink... Been on all my bikes since I got them.

Big plus is I can hop on and pedal to the pub / shops with just a pair of thongs on.
