No Daryl Impey for Tour de France - Positive Test Result

I saw a piece in the newspaper here on Monday or Tuesday, where they asked Khalid Galant of the institute of drug free sport about it. He said he was unaware of any sport supplement containing probenecid and "as far as he is aware" it is a stand alone prescription drug.

When asked if an athlete could take Probenecid without knowing, he replied "I am not sure" Can one take a prescription drug without knowing?

Not looking too good in my opinion.

contaminated supplements took down our Springbok team - chilliboy and bjorn basson were the two unlucky ones who had to pee in the cup. The supplier seems to have got away ok with it, maybe some more serious stuff behind the scenes

Seems like Chilliboy had the same supplement again :-(

I think they call this the Omerta

Omerta is a code of silence. People who've admitted to me that they doped - both in competition and for recreation - is hardly being silent on the matter when they say they believe Daryl is clean.

Yes, and they are all clean, so clean that they will sue you if you even suggest otherwise. Ps: Tumbles, when you say Daryl turned down recreational drugs from the boys. It reads like you mean he turned it down from the pro's you spoke too, which must be untrue.

Some people need a course of PEDs. Others need a course of remedial reading. You don't need to infer something which is plainly stated. Like, duh.

The Omerta in cycling as much the practice of denialism, as remaining tight lipped, all I see here is denialism from another group of faceless cyclists. Cyclists who, based on their use of PEDS and recreational drugs, are perhaps not the most credible in any event.

As much fun as it may be - I can't see much point in bashing each other here. The finding has been made. Due process will follow including explanations with a finding. None of that will change because of what is said here. I like debates because it brings points to the fore but pure handbags at 10 paces is counterproductive.

how many people has lance named? Just because a cyclist admits, doesnt mean they'll rat out the others

He is not referring to getting "ratted out"

So who are these people that have doped?

Contaminated supplements ? Maybe, but who still has the original containers, with enough left to have tested 6 months later ? I suspect that for many sporting codes like Rugby, Swimming, Tennis etc its an escape route, to sweep doping under the carpet. If it was a wide spread reality, supplement manufactures would be sued for loss of earnings and endorsements by all those testing positive.

In the Lion King they talk of the Circle of Life...

This here is the circle of doping (shakes head)

The situation is reminiscent of the controversy involving another Island athlete, triathlete Kelly Guest of Victoria, who was ejected from the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games for inadvertently ingesting the steroid nandrolone which he said must have been through the nutritional supplements he was taking. Guest, who was reinstated by the CCES in 2004, went on to a successful triathlon career and is now a hugely popular local youth coach.

Funny, when people say the same type of thing about SA cyclists, they get very "sue-y".
