After doing the Bastille Festival MTB event in Franschhoek today, my missus and I wanted to enjoy the festival. However, I picked up about 5 kilos of mud on the trail. We wanted to eat at the Le Quartier Francais (fancy boutique hotel) in the main road, but being so dirty, this kite was not going to fly.

True to her form, my spunky missus was not going to let some mud get between her and a nice lunch. She promptly asked the manager of the hotel, Eleanor, if I could have a shower.

Eleanor, in Bastille festive spirit, asked her staff to show me to a very nice hot shower complete with shower gel, shampoo, soap and towels. This without any expectation of our patronage.

To top this, Eleanor even mixed a recovery drink for me.

I sometimes cycle from home (Brackenfell) and stop there for a “Franschhoek Energade” which is indicated as a Sticky Bun on the menu. It is fantastic source of energy for the return trip.

This is a very nice place to eat with the pricing lower than what one would expect for a snazzy place such as this. It is newly renovated has a very upmarket feel.

Thanx to Eleanor, Hettie, her staff and Le Quartier Francais!
