corrie.kuilder Posted August 16, 2014 Share So after a ride today,my rear derailleur took a knock, damaging the cage, which is carbon. The derailleur is a Shimano xtr,and I cannot upload a pic to show. Now my question is,will it be better to replace it with a alu cage,or will I be able to fix it with some kind of epoxy? The damage is on th bottom part, where the lower derailleur wheel run (seems like it guides the chain on the wheel). Any advice would help,as I doubt that any lbs will be able to supply me with a carbon replacement, and I have a big event coming up from the 31st to the 6th of sept in oudshoorn. Johan Bornman Posted August 16, 2014 Share I've repaired cage damage before by laminating a piece of aluminium to the carbon with epoxy. I shaped the alu to exactly the same outline as the cage and glued it on. However, that was for a broken cage. It would depend on what sort of damage you have.
