W1Z@RD Posted February 11, 2015 Share So I understand that suikerbos nature reserve is closed since Jan?? Apparently there is a water issue. Anyone have info when it will open again?
TeebagAxis Posted February 11, 2015 Share I heard today that it's due to the animals being "killed". I do however speak under correction. Yet to find any proof of that
EmptyB Posted February 11, 2015 Share Haven't been there for a while but according to radio its looking rather grim inside. I seriously hope this is not long term!!!
scubes Posted February 11, 2015 Share I cycled there a few weeks ago. There was no water. Did not know they closed..
Ham Posted February 11, 2015 Share We rode there from jhb last weekend to find them closed. The guy at the gate said they had stolen the water pipes. These had been replaced, but they were waiting for rand water to test the water quality before reopening. scubes

HOEKVLAG Posted February 12, 2015 Share We were also there a couple of weeks ago. Didn't need water - had enough post-ride beers!. The roads were ride able, but even though we were on MTB's we did notice that he surface was pretty rough in areas. Sad to hear they closed. Hope it gets sorted quickly! rudi-h Posted February 12, 2015 Share So why close the park. Surely a sign at the entrance stating "no water inside" would do the trick. I'd gladly take a water bottle with, he'll I'll even bring the security guard some if I need to. This is worthy of a serious petition from the JHB cycling community. It's the most scenic, safest and best training spot in the entire Gauteng! Even without water. Frosty Posted February 13, 2015 Share http://www.timeslive.co.za/thetimes/2015/02/10/scenic-reserve-left-to-ruinFrom the editorial:Lambasting the department, Lasindwa said: "The project was supposed to be completed in 2009. What happened all these years? Where is the department's project manager? How much have we really spent on this project? This is public money. You cannot spend it as if it is your own ..." 6 years after it was supposed to be completed they make this statement.
