wazi Posted March 3, 2015 Share So I needed some strong lights for the MRS and I. At over R700ea it was not an option to buy two sets. So I went about making my own set for about R120ea. I will be posting a "set by step" as I have time just in case anyone wants to make their own. All electronics were purchased from http://www.rabtron.co.za and I highly recommend them for their helpfulness and quick service. If I had any "electronic" questions they were happy to answer. Here's the parts list:6 x 3W High Power Led - White - 160~180lMR114.02 4 x B165L Push Button Latching Round RedR31.46 3 x High Power LED Lens 45 degR34.20 1 x Heat Shrink Tubing 12MM BLACK - Per MetreR12.00 1 x Heat Shrink Tubing 3.5mm RED - Per MetreR5.00 1 x Heat Shrink Tubing 3.5mm BLUE - Per MetreR5.00 2 x B163B Mini Push Button N/C BlackR11.99 1 x Heat Shrink Tubing 1MM BLACK - Per MetreR3.00 1 x Heat Shrink Tubing 10MM BLACK - Per MetreR10.00 1 x Heat Shrink Tubing 1.5MM BLACK - Per MetreR3.50 3 x Battery Clip For 9V PP3 BatteryR8.58 2 x Battery Holder 4xAA LongR15.73 3 x High Power LED Lens 25 degR34.20 6 x 3.9 OHM 5.0W 5% W/WR19.84 BUILD PART1 (click to follow) You'll notice I bought extra LEDs and extra resistors just in case The heat shrink tubing is just a nice to have and not expensive. madbradd Posted March 4, 2015 Share Good luck with build. Out of interest why no constant current driver for the LEDs?
JXV Posted March 4, 2015 Share No batteries listed in your parts. Using normal AA cells? How many in what configuration?

wazi Posted March 4, 2015 Share MadBradd: Cause I'd either need one for each LED or a powerful one to drive them both. Would've added R400 to the build budget and I wanted to keep costs down. Edited March 4, 2015 by wazi

It is the most popular, but I am in the LED lighting industry and we sell both Constant current and Constant voltage drivers.
wazi Posted March 4, 2015 Share No batteries listed in your parts. Using normal AA cells? How many in what configuration?good question as there was a Lot of decision making involved in choosing power. Will give more detail later but basically I have a lot of rechargeable AA batteries so I'm using them in a 6v configuration. Using the "Battery Holder 4xAA Long" to package them.
