Z-man Posted April 23, 2015 Share Hi guys, I need some info on getting a support driver for the Trans Baviaans this year. I plan on giving the organizers a call tomorrow, but some info from the hubbers will be appreciated. I could not find anything that helped on google or the Trans website. I'm not dragging a buddy along from Cape Town just to drive the car to Jeffreys. I thought that the crew at the event will be able to provide drivers at a fee obviously...but when entering your team on the website, they request the name and details of the driver that form part of the team. Thanks!
mrbaker Posted April 23, 2015 Share The support driver is normally a mate or family member...When I did it, the wives were the support drivers and it worked well...
Joe Low Posted April 23, 2015 Share The service you describe was offered 2012 and 2013, not sure about last year or this, but its not a support driver, its ferrying your car to the end. A support driver carries spare bits and pieces and hopefully hot food and meets you coming out of the reserve and possibly elsewhere. Be interesting if the car ferrying service is still going - possibly a little optimistic in these dark times.
vinylguy Posted April 23, 2015 Share Car transfer services worked well last year you dont need a support driver they have enough boxes for you to manage without a support driver. First box is a waste of time
Z-man Posted April 23, 2015 Share According to the info from the site, it seems that you must have a support driver and it forms part of your team...can't enter without one...

WKNDWRRR Posted April 23, 2015 Share We had our car ferried last year and then we took turns driving back to Cape Town. It worked very well. If I remember correctly it cost about R300 for the service. Z-man

Thanks!Hi Z-ManHave a look at the Trans Baviaans thread. I have offered to take some people from Cape Town if you are interested. FYI, you can enter without a support driver, no problem. This is what the organisers told me a few weeks ago.
DaviM Posted April 24, 2015 Share As previously stated support driver not required (but you do get an extra shirt regardless if they are there or not). There was something mentioned in our last mail. • Vehicles WILL NOT be allowed to park in Checkpoint #5. • Vehicles WILL BE allowed to park in Checkpoint #6. Seems that warehouse got pretty hectic last year. As for supplies all stops are over catered and any specialist supplies can be placed in the boxes supplied. Very excited to be fit for this race this year ;-)
