FanieFiets Posted May 18, 2015 Share @FanieFiets bike rack clamp? It is at the spot where it clamps. But I don't think it was the rack as my bike rack has the elastic fasteners. Overlord
shawnvan Posted May 18, 2015 Share I'm no expert, but that looks like a pretty sharp impact and deeper than paint... What did the "coin test" do?
FanieFiets Posted May 18, 2015 Share I'm no expert, but that looks like a pretty sharp impact and deeper than paint... What did the "coin test" do? Bike is currently at Giant Concept store in Durbanville so couldnt do the coin test. Will update as I get more info. Will see what the insurance says, I'm pretty sure they are going to make VERY sure it is a claim before paying out. If it isnt a crack, fantastic. Can then sell the bike without wondering if the buyer is going to break his neck.
JXV Posted May 18, 2015 Share Saw some advice on a Q& A session on Pinkbike where the tech guy said "a crack in the paintjob ALWAYS means a crack underneath"
King_Crispy Posted May 18, 2015 Share Doesn't look fresh. looks like that crack has been around for a while. Mark it when you get it back with a permanent marker and see if it grows.
The_Break Posted May 18, 2015 Share Here she is. Thats probably just paint. To crack carbon which will form a crack pattern running from a point you really need to do some serious damage. That does not look like enough damage. If it was a single hairline crack that ran fairly straight and long than a few cm I would be concerned. That looks ok, just cosmetic, I would do as suggested regarding insurance though. Good luck man!
FanieFiets Posted May 25, 2015 Share So the insurance let me know they are replacing the frame! Pretty sweet, no hassles whatsoever. Giant also let me know I can sell the frame and carry over the lifetime warranty seeing as I havnt done one km on it. So new question.....How much do I sell a new Giant TCR Advanced with new Giant PA-2 wheels (neither 1 km) with secondhand dura Ace groupset for? gummibear
