JimmyTheGoat Posted June 8, 2015 Share Hi guys I was moving my bike this morning and noticed that thru axle skewer was missing, although the axle is still sitting firmly in the fork. I rode over some pretty rough terrain on Saturday and think it might have fallen out there, although I didn't think this could happen. The lever was a bit loose a couple of weeks ago and I'm thinking that was my problem. New lesson learned I guess. Question: does anyone know where I can get a replacement in Johannesburg and what the price range is? Haven't had this problem before so don't know whether the skewers are interchangeable (e.g. between fox and rockshox or different size forks), etc.
droo Posted June 9, 2015 Share You won't get the locking skewer separately, you'll need to buy the complete axle for about R 700. Otherwise, place a wanted ad - plenty of people break the tabs off the axle and have to replace it but will still have the locking skewer in one piece. Then, when replacing it, read the instructions. If you install it properly it won't break or fall out.
MaxTBehrens Posted June 9, 2015 Share If this helps, I found a maxle light 15mm through axle skewer for you rockshox fork, at Cwcycles for 550. Not sure where else to find one. Im pretty sure the 15mm skewers are interchangeable, and the same with the 20mm. http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/rock-shox-maxle

whistler Posted June 9, 2015 Share I managed to break my TA skewer a while ago by overtightening it ( I know I know). Replaced it with a slightly modified normal qr skewer and it actually works! At R45 plus a little goodwilling help from the lbs. Only difference now is you have to remove the complete skewer in order to remove the axle. Tried to order the axle from suppliers but could not find the correct one. Crc had some that time for R650 I think.
