Skylark Posted July 7, 2015 Share One advantage is conserving all your energy for going down the hills, fast, this could just allow more downhill time if you were that way inclined. At many spots getting to the top of the run/trails is so exhausting you can only do it once. But as with any thing, now there is another expensive bit to break and maintain, nah. Pure Savage Posted July 7, 2015 Share I really cannot see the problem everyone has with pedal assist. You don't have to put it on your bike, are you worried about your strava times? Are you worried about trails being wrecked by extra weight, this means all people over 100kg should be banned from trails?  It has nothing to do with you, so what is the problem?  The more people you get on a bike, the more people that will start commuting or understanding bikes and there will be one or two less people hating on bikers when they drive their cars. Maybe people will even stop parking in the green cycle lanes in Bree street TALUS, cfcjim, LazyTrailRider and 1 other
Matchstix Posted July 7, 2015 Share And the more downhill's will be clogged by riders that can't descent, but can "power" the hills all the way to the top. Unfortunately the pedal assist won't make you faster on the downhill. . . Letting go of your brakes assists with that.

Nick Posted July 7, 2015 Share I've tried a few low specced e-bikes, they were fun, but I can't wait to get a chance to try a proper electric mountain bike like this Spez. Looks like buckets of fun. There, I said it. Iwan Kemp and Neill Du Toit
Johny Bravo Posted July 7, 2015 Share I really like it. Instead of using a bakkie to shuttle me up the mountain I can use this bike. And have multiple downhill runs, instead of 4 or 5. nolipoli

NicoBoshoff Posted July 7, 2015 Share I just don't get it. I don't like it. I know it's no skin off my back. Still think it's really stupid. But seriously, this is not a substitute for shuttles. The pedal assist works downhill as well and the bike is so fundamentally changed to accomodate it I don't think you'll get an honest ride down either. Another thing - if you get a newbie on this bike and they start riding like Ratboy and Chris Akrigg's lovechild after a month, please put them on an actual bicycle and film them trying that 5m gap jump out of a corner again. I will pay money for that footage.
