Why does it need to be factory built?

I just bought a set of Flow Ex hoops on Hope Pro 2 Evo hubs from CWC for R5399.

They're out of stock at the moment but that's great quality and value for money.

At you weight you should maybe just opt for the Arch Ex as it's a bit lighter.

Other options

WTB i23 / i25

But for R7000 on the dot look at American Classic, particularly Wide Lightnings. they sell out really quickly everytime stock comes in, but  you should be able to find a set for R7000

I like the wider rims due to smaller chance of the rim rolling over the tyre and the increased grip

Do yourself a favour and do not get the American Classic 101.

I have had an on going issue where the rim splits  at the spoke nipple, I havent had these rims longer than 4 months and were built buy a reliable builder.

I have also had no response from the distributor as to when I will be getting my new rims on warranty (bear in mind the claim was put through my LBS who have cc'd me in communications with the distributor).

My options for Rims would be Sun Ringle or ZTR Flow or Arch EX, a little more heavier but bullet proof.

Seriaas? Is this some kind of special because that combo goes for R8000 at most places.

More info? If I can get them for that price I will be super stoked...

I have the factory fitted Roval 29 wheels that came with my Specialized Epic Comp - would an upgrade to the ZTR/Crest Wheelset be worth it?

I guess what I am really asking is would the difference in performance/ride be enough to warrant dropping that much money?

Some guidance would be much appreciated  :)

AM Classics Wide Lightnings AFAIK have an 87 Kg rider limit. So at 90kg you may be on the limit fully dressed with your AM kit on and there were many comments about their fragility. As well as  a post that the Flow EX wider rims were only 100 Grams heavier with Hope Pro 2's.

I followed the other thread on the wider rims and have built a set of Hopes on ZTR Flows with 2.3 rubber.

Rode them last weekend for the first time - the grip is pretty spectacular. The tires and V Rubber 2.3's which do have a higher rolling resistance but also a stupid amount of grip.

So go wider as they said and for a less fragile rim look at the ZTR's

Depends what you want to achieve. Wider rims and fatter tyres equals lower pressures and better grip but also more spun mass and the like. You could change rims to wider carbon rims etc.

The list is endless.
