a friend of mine has just done this and her photos look amazing....this is something id be really keen to do.

I did it and was a great experience. Personally, I'm putting my own trail 'event' together. I cannot justify the cost vs extra value doing it through an event organiser. No beer tent, music, mc or vibe at the end was a big let down for me. All the routes are on SANPARK routes. Total cost for me and the wifey was about R 12k with accommodation, buses and everything else.

Ok..I read the entry fee and thought that it was accommodation included...I see you have to book and pay seperately.  That starts getting expensive!  I think if you put your own trail event together, let me know and we'll join you :whistling: .  Why do organisors have to get greedy.

its what puts me off trail running. over 1500 per day just for the run...and they generally dont even provide tables. Its an absolute ripoff...and they all like that

Agree. I rather drive from my house to Kaapschehoop, run 20-35km there and have a lekker lunch and craft beer for less than R500

African X was R8600 for the entry. Add R6000 for plane tickets. Add another R2000 for car hire drive to the event.....and leave the car there for ~3 days in the sun and drive back - so you don't even use the car. So all-in-all it was more than R16k. You can easily add another R1k or more just for snacks and water (we bought bottled water at - stomach bugs/problems are for FREE)!

Thanks Lexx, Well done on your race too... Sorry about the Calf Niggle.. 93 is still a great run.

Man, I love that race... I don't know why but I always seem to run well there... Must be the 1300m of Altitude Drop from Jhb as its not the easiest course or terrain.

How is your knee and leg? Everything back to or as close to normal again?

Ultra trail running is the "new" golf.   It is edge-ier  than road running, gets to more far-out places than Mount biking, and is more physically challenging than almost any other discipline of running or cycling.  The cost and limited entries (300 persons per race normally) tends to keep the "riff raff" and less serious athletes away.  (Note the sarcasm and anti-elitist jeer here).

The distances are also increasing from 15km jogs to 50km runs and multi-day challenges.  Soon Comrades and the Washie are going to be classed as "fun" runs.

there is a +-15 km round trip along the promenade...literally people running walking skating all day every day. From suncoast to ushaka and back will be about 12km i reckon. You could gooi a surf and ushaka while you are at it

you could venture inland..but then you will get more traffic and berea hills...but still safe enough

this activity from a strava friend shows the full promenade route..but is cut short before ushaka...I am sharing it so you can see the bit north of suncoast but south of the river (dont worry about the bit north of the river)...thats the full promenade run if you want to run a bit more

That is rather silly money... hopefully they don't all go that way
