Help me budget for my upgrade: 2015 Specialized Camber Comp Carbon

Hi guys (including Spec haters  :ph34r: ),

 

So I've had me 2015 Specialized Camber Comp Carbon for a few weeks now and really loving it but even as a newbie, one can't help getting all caught up in the "need to upgrade hype".

 

Having said this, would you guys be able to help budget and plan the upgrades on my bike.

 

Specs are as follows (plus spez bottle cage, tubeless conversion and freebie shimano cleat pedals :thumbup: ):

 

FRAME

Upgrade those heavy wheels first. Expensive but will make the biggest difference to your ride. If you can't afford carbon look at something like the AC Wide Lightnings which are good value for money and would roll nicely on your camber.

I think Carbon wheels are rather pricey + I've never ridden a bike with them so not sure what effect they would have- I have however heard that they are amazing - I suppose for the price that you pay for them, they should be epic! I'll deff look into the Wide Lightnings as recommended- Thanks  :thumbup:

Again, thanks for this- I've read that if you upgrade the front fork, you need to upgrade the rear shock so that the travel in the same? 

 

What about a command post/dropper post?

No. Rear travel stays the same. I don't know where you read that, but it's a pile of dog turd.

 

As for the dropper. Command post or giant dropper. Both perfect

X7 fd (equivalent of slx) slx shifter and XT RD. Sram 1250 crank (equivalent of slx / xt)

So ja, it is. No need to upgrade

Are you guys still speaking English- Eish ???? I'm completely lost on what you suggested above. I'm still a newbie at this..

Hi mtb new guy.

 

So you have a fairly decent stock standard new bike.

 

Rode the damned thing the way it is for now and get a good feel for the bike and how it handles first before you start throwing money away on needles upgrades.

 

If you really want to upgrade, get yourself booked into a good skills clinic and invest in your bike handling skills first and foremost.

 

By the time you have a decent skill level you will also know more about how you ride, or want to ride, and would have a better understanding of what would benefit you as a rider.

 

In my mind, the order of importance to get right.

 

Good frame in the right size and good geometry.

Best suspension you can afford

Beat wheelset you can afford.

Best brakes

Good tyre selection

After this all drive train components are expendable items, so ride what you have till it is kaput and then buy new upgraded parts.

My 2014 Camber's upgrades to date:

 

XT brakes

American Classic Wide Lightning wheelset (awesome!)

Eventually replaced groupset with 2x11 XT

Carbon handlebar and stem
