December Sedgefield Rides

Sorry for the Hijack, but anyone know if I can hire a bike for a day to ride the Harkerville trails? Will be down there for a while, but can't take my bike with.

I know you can hire bikes at Garden Route Trail Park but I doubt they'll let you ride them elsewhere.

Not a problem, as long as I can ride some of the local trails. Any idea what bikes they have?

Ask Bespoked or Cycle Worx or Ultimate cycles all in Knysna I think they hire out bikes.

Coimbra in George also rents out bikes apparently. Edited by Skylark

Sorry for reviving this old thread.. I'll be down in Sedgefield from next week. Last year we were close enough to Garden Route Trail Park to cycle there from Sedge, play for 3-4 hours, and cycle back to sedge in time for lunch. But seeing now that the Trail Park will be closed this year, what are my alternatives? I can only do Cloud 9 so many times..and I'd like to just get on my bike and ride somewhere without having to load it and drive somewhere with a car before I can get on the bike.

Go to Cycle workx in the main road and speak to Eugene, cycling everyday second day with either roadbike or mtb

I am in Wilderness from the 19th to the 8th of Jan.

I love the old george- knysna road. (Gravel road) (Cyclocross ish)

I have spent some time on the N2 and then side roads, also not the end of the world. Also gone up the Oudsthoorn pass form George. (Road ish)

If you have knobly tyres, I spent three days in the bushes at the Garden Route trail park. Most fun ever on a MTB bike. (Giant anthem ish)

See you in paradise!

Garden route trailpark destroyed by fires, closed indefinitely so ride up from Sedge to the 7 passes road turn left or right  - more gravel than anything but pretty - if you have a great sense of direction head up into the mountains. Just 400/500km of endless gravel loops. Road riding, join @puresavage from Island lake through to George on newly tarred 7 passes, up and over Outeniqua pass, drop down turn left till the beautiful road runs out - turn around and go back same way - that will be a nice 100km with 1500 of climbing and all as safe as you'll ever be on an SA road.

Shattered....?

Its usually the absolute highlight of my holiday. I saw they were closed for maintenance until holidays.. But assume its been escalated.. the damage must be worse than initially expected.

This is really shitty news.

The locals in Knysna has been quietly going about building some trails in the forest behind town, but Its just not the same as the GRTP for the adrenaline crew.

Shattered...

I think Rob had hoped to get it up and running but we had very heavy rain here which must have damaged the trails. There are no trees, it looks very sad. I will update if I hear otherwise

Coffee shop and pump track open so worth a stop and many rides around - not quite the same I know but hopefully it will get sorted

OK, I'm also in Sedge from 23/12 till 6/01. Packing only my gravel bike this year . Used to do the Karatara loop , about 50km . Mostly tar with a bit of gravel inbetween .

Yes, I saw that. I was so keen to ride the new flow trail line which was right by the loop. I guess there was just to much happening to soon. I wont be going out for the pumptrack, Ill be back for June July holidays next year.

I am going up this year from the 26th of Dec to the 9th of Jan.

Thinking of taking the road bike this year as another Savage is coming up for some time as well.

Routes we will be looking to do from Island Lake:

1. Old George road to Outeniqua pass and back

2. Ride to karatara do both sides of the fork

3. Ride for breakfast to Kysna

4. Shorter evening Hoekvil rides to the cheese cake place.

5. Maybe ride out near George airport, the strava flyby does not look bright around there though.

Once made some more plans will put dates down.
