Kleinhans and Reid join new Team Spur

The fact that someone of Ariane's quality almost didn't have a sponsor is crazy. Well done to Spur for stepping up!

The fact that someone of her quality, that is another nations ex national champ and she still is registered as a national of that country, needs a South African sponsor, is even more worrisome.

Interesting that Erik is not part of this, wonder what the behind the scenes politics are?

None at all, RECM folded they all looked after themselves. Erik is Marathon based and James and Ariane are going XC. 2 totally different programs.

Why must there be politics? Mentality like yours is pretty **** way of looking at life or at a new team on the block supporting riders who are able to follow dreams.

She wants to stay here and train then travel to europe to race. Not many European sponsors see the benefit of that I am sure.

Ariane is also primarily an XCM rider.

Reid was brought into the RE:CM fold as their XCO specialist, with everyone else focussing on XCM events.

Just curious because I think there is more to the RECM story. Doesn't mean I don't support them so no need to get on high horses and make sweeping emotional statements.

RECM didn't "fold" - the long-term sponsorship of the team was summarily ended.

That leads to a few legitimate questions about the health of SA's mtb sponsorships, along with pros riding without a sponsor, nedbank withdrawing from S2c etc.

When you throw in rumours of a divorce between 2 top team pros into the mix, there are more - legitimate  - questions about what's really going on...

None of the above is in any way a " **** way of looking at life", as you succinctly put it.

Yes she WAS, now she is focusing on XC for 2016.

Erik is not.

As mentioned its called life and not every marriage lasts, yet all year they carried on very professionally. So much that 80% of the public had no idea. Their problems / differences had nothing to do with RECM stopping their sponsorship with the team.

There is nothing really going on unless you ask this of every single team sponsorship that does not carry on for a lifetime.

Your view.

What is more? RECM were in financial problems and couldnt afford the sponsorship? The time came to a end and RECM got what they wanted out of it like MTN? Erik and Arianne had some personal issues? James hated soda water that the team was supplied with? Nico was tired of giving free tubes out his shop to the team?

There is your more.

Its called life and no one but their business. You really shouldnt lose sleep over it.

Uhm... I'm not. Said that because it was nice to see a married couple, riding at the top of the sport together.

Had the opportunity to meet them both at the launch of RECM's team announcement earlier this year. If the rumor is true it will be sad news indeed.

Saw on another thread that Erik and Arianne is not married anymore so that would explain quite a lot...

Sad to hear of those rumours. Sometimes being in business with your SO isn't such a great idea.

Glad that Ariane and James have a great sponsor's to support them in their racing careers.

None of the above, I heard there were problems with how the team was managed, short while later the sponsorship ended abruptly. Who knows, maybe it was just a bad rumour and the only reason was just RECM financial issues but no reason to get so offended by a simple question.

Anyway, seemingly none of us know more anyway so question answered.
