So the lazy, warm weather openers have come and gone. Jonny D' has all but severed a finger putting his MSR and PR defence in jeopardy.

Spartacus is in his retirement season and Boonan wants to keep, keeping on.

Sagan is in the hoops and looking to.... who knows!

What's Kristoff gonna deliver? Is Dimension Data going to try to make Cav' a cobbles winner? Who will Sky turn to now Gee is a GC contender? Will EQS stuff up again when if come to the punch?

It's about that time to delve into the joy of miserable, tough and legendary racing where you'll hardly ever find a show pony of a GC contender bouncing off the cobbles.

So excited!

And more than that.

For me this is going to be an especially important Classics season because it will be the last time we get to watch the two giants of the sport (Tommeke and Spartacus) side by side.

Bitter-sweet times ahead. Lots of excitement and anticipation right now, but a lingering sadness in the background because it's the end of an era.

Yes we've got so many exciting youngsters coming up, and lots of riders who are capable of winning these Classics right now - brilliant.

But 2016 is going to be only about Spartacus and Tommeke for me.

If either one of them have more bad luck and crash out for some reason before we can see them in full flight one last time in Flanders or PR, I will be inconsolable.

Quiz time...

Only 3 riders have won MSR and PR in the same season. Jonny D last year, the always awesome Sean Kelly and Cyrille Hauwaert in 1908.

Question. What manufacture did both of them use / share in their victory year?

Agreed. Please let Boonan stay upright on flat, open roads in the middles of the desert this time around.

Shame Paolini won't be there to defend his Gent - Wevelgem title and i'm guessing the Pro's will be praying the wind won't be quite as tough as last year!

Too stoked for the spring classics! Got some late nights at work coming on, so evening sessions on the trainer while watching should warm me up (to quote 'Dale)
