Statins and fatigue

Recommended Posts

I have been back on statins for the last 6 months . Lately I'm feeling more and more fatigued . Battle to lift my backside out of bed in the morning . Not feeling sick , just really tired .

Can this be because of statins . I have never been a happy chappie on any chronic meds .

Perhaps you need to go read recent studies on statins. I don't have links but if memory serves me right, it's all a big money making scheme with no apparent reduction in reducing cardiovascular disease. I follow lchf as an alternative and stopped statins.

I have a cousin who is very high doses of statins and he constantly complains on rides of not cramp but constant muscle pain.

Fatigue, myalgia and muscle cramps is a common side affect of statin group.

If this is the case tell it to your GP.

Depending on you specific history and lipid profile he should act accordingly.

Very common is just move to another statin in the group of statins and the simptoms subside.

I had to "test" about four different statins to get one that did not give me the myalgia.

Some of the "newer" statins you get better efficacy than the "older" ones with a much lower dose and incidence of side effects.

Your GP could also suggest other  alternative anti-cholesterol treatment of lifestyle changes if it is appropriate to your profile.

PS: Don't just stop your medication because some-one online did and got different results.

You are not him. They  might not have need the statin in the 1ste place. Yes in many cases doters give it unnecessarily but in other cases not.  Do not be afraid to get a second QUALIFIED opinion to that of your current one.  More (correct) knowledge is better for you as the patient.

Plemty of side effects exist for statin useage - BUT - you need to be re-assesd by a cardiologist fairly urgently - just in case you are developing other issues as a result of your lipid profile that caused the statin treatment initially.

Don't change your treatment in the short term - just call your cardiologist and make an appointment for an evaluation. (and if your GP put you on statins, then definately visit a cardilologist asap for a full blown exam)
