News bot Posted February 19, 2016 Share The Department of Transport and Public Works will permit cyclists and pedestrians to start using the south side of Chapman’s Peak Drive again from 19 February 2016. Safety is the Department’s highest priority. Restrictions were imposed on cyclists and pedestrians after massive fires across the Cape Peninsula in March 2015. The fires destroyed the vegetation above the road and increased the risk of rock and stone falls to an unacceptable level.Click here to view the article

DJR Posted February 19, 2016 Share It just means that Entelini kept their promise to complete clearing fallen rocks from the nets and installed the new nets before the Argus go through there in 2 weeks time. The engineers have now signed it off and it is officially and legally open. Without that bit we would not have had the 2016 Argus go over Chappies. The individual could defy the ban, but an organisation like the Cycle Tour could never get around that legal issue. Say what you want, 36 000 cyclists will appreciate that signature come race day.
