Davey_Jones Posted January 8, 2020 Share I am a solid Garmin Groupie, self admitted and not ashamed. 945 or Fenix 6, or even F5 or 745 etc. Garmin just have this tri watch market sorted.check out dcrainmaker for review on watches before buying them. There is no better place for a review than there. ..sorry quoted the wrong post. Edited January 8, 2020 by Davey_Jones

Is the Sapphire version worth the extra cash? How scratch resistant is it?
Vetplant Posted January 9, 2020 Share So opted for the Fenix 6 Pro. Is the Sapphire version worth the extra cash? How scratch resistant is it?Trust me, if you can afford it go for the Sapphire. My normal Fenix 3 looks horrid, it scratches very easily. I have a formal swiss watch with sapphire, bought it in 2006, not a single scratch. IceCreamMan Posted January 10, 2020 Share So opted for the Fenix 6 Pro. Is the Sapphire version worth the extra cash? How scratch resistant is it? my Fenix 6 is my first garmin with sapphire. Previously I always bought screen protectors which are reasonably cheap. My conventional watch has sapphire and after 12 years of ownership not a scratch. that swung me. Differnce is that these garmins are not long term watches, in 3 to 4 years its obsolete and ready to die anyway so I guess its not as essential. But if you can swing it, get sapphire. Its worth the extra.

EddieV Posted January 13, 2020 Share So after taking part in Triathlon's ugly sister Duathlon for the last 8 years or so, promised to do a Tri in 2020, and my first one will be on the 5th of this month out at The Blyde Balwin (give it a click - pretty impressive https://www.balwin.co.za/developments/the-blyde-pretoria-east/ ) Admittedly it's no 70.3 or 5150 (600m swim, 18km MTB and 3km Trail run), but for a beginner like me who managed to only swim 5 laps of Virgin Active's pool in the 1st December, a 600m swim is pretty daunting! I still can't do the full swim without a rest, but I figure that the race swim of 3 x 200m lengths should be doable! Similarly to Allen Carr's book - "The easy way to stop smoking" the book "Total Immersion" by Terry Laughlin (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/936958.Total_Immersion) had changed things for me dramatically. Swimming had become a meditation instead of a chore, and I love it now. I can go much further and with much less anxiety (if any). If you are an adult beginner to long distance swimming, and you struggle, I would recommend you having a look at this book. It changed my world of swimming. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/936958.Total_Immersion Wil6 and SwissVan

I'm really lucky though in that my wife is a SwimSmooth coach so she's really helped a hell of a lot - on the first of December I genuinely could only do 75m of the VA Pool. On the 5th Jan I completed the 600-ish needed at Blyde. It wasn't the fastest I'll be honest - but I wasn't last out the water either and I made up quite a bit of time on the bike and the run. Was smashed the afternoon though - Duathlon during the race I found much tougher, but recovered much faster - the Tri really took it out of me later in the day.
