Fitness from Console Games

All,

We are struggling to get in any exercise during the week due to a new born in the house and a toddler that takes up our time. Getting up earlier in morning is proving extremely difficult and in the afternoons just as tough.

I am thinking of ways that can motivate some exercise in the week for both wife and myself and try make time and thought of these Nintendo Wii fit consoles that come with that fit board.

Anyone use something like this to gain some fitness and improve balance? Is it more fun and therefore you make time for it, like after kiddies have gone to bed?

I see you can do Yoga, balance and all sorts of stuff that looks like fun at the same time get a sweat on. Let me be clear, I am just wanting to get some sort of exercise in the week and not using it as a rigorous training regime to slash times.

Would be nice to hear your thoughts.

It's a gimmick really. I wouldn't waste your money or your time on them. They're about as useful as those 6 back flex machines that guarantee you a six pack while you drink beer and watch TV.

Get the wife a running pram and send her out in the afternoon.

Find exercises... cardio and strength training etc that you can do at home.

Go for walks after work and then park runs etc Saturday

Good Luck

Edit: It's all about finding the right combo to work with

Thanks for the reply. Just seemed like a fun alternative....why oh why can't I just sit on the couch, drink beer in turn making me fit and healthy...lol

Xbox 360 has a couple of training "games".

The MMA trainer has a good core and strength program that uses the Kinect.

some of the stuff is brutal

I have thought of the rollers as that is good for balance also but you will need some slick tires so it doesn't;t sound like train chugging along and that means getting a set of wheels with slicks to change out every time or get a road bike...expensive options :(

The stationery bike could be a good option. We had a stationery walker machine that we used for a while and then gathered dust but that thing was a but boring. At least the stationery bike is biking related and more fun.

Stationary bike or treadmill. Easy to get your exercise done and at the same time keep an eye on the kids. Even when kids are older I feel less guilty when I get home from work and I get on the trainer instead of disappearing for another hour or 2.

I wanted to comment on this but it's obvious you've already discovered this form of exercise (kids)

Lol...only problem is that this exercise is directly proportional to the number of kids...the more kids, the less the exercise...lol..  :)

It may seem unimaginable now but the  craziness of a toddler and baby does pass relatively fast so don't spend too much on something that is not going to be used for that long.

Think she will be upset if I send her out and ask to get beer while she's out?

Have you got space to hang a heavy bag? Nothing works better for fitness, takes up less time than a skipping and heavy bag workout and funnily enough it's the perfect antidote to a stressful day! I typically skip for 3 minutes than put on my gloves and do a 2 minute round working the bag, back to a 3 minute skip back to the bag. By the third set I am feeling properly poked and have to slow down my efforts. That's just 15 minutes done!

I use this twice a week and it's done wonders for my state of fitness and mind! Highly recommended. Loads of how to videos on how to wrap your hands before putting on gloves. It's way cheaper than all the electronic fitness devices and it's full on!

You can also have mother in law's pic on there... then you can exceed the 2 min ... :whistling:
