see what I said about 10day forecasts??!!!!

And also has something to do with which forecast model is used.

Windguru uses GFS (the American one), and yr.no uses ECMWF (the European one, and current leader in the highly competitive field of weather prediction models).

I am looking forward to this one! There is nothing like camping and mountain biking with your mates to revive one's spirit a bit.

Gaan lekker wees om jou weer raak te ry Grant en die weer lyk of dit gaan saam speel die keer so jy hoef nie te wag tot 8pm om jou eerste lap te doen nie :D

Watch out for me walking that crazy uphill to the dam on the top. In other news: I can't find my red AmaRider tag.

I don't mind that uphill - I'm usually in super slow crawling mode by then anyway! It's that first uphill up to the contour that gets me.

*Going to check on my tag when I get home - I have an idea where it might be*

Who knows the new route well? Looks like a lot of straight lines. Is there some fun stuff there?

We did some of the new route sections on the night ride last week. There are definitely some fun sections, but also better opportunity to pass slower riders, which will mean a more enjoyable experience for both the racer and fun categories.

While doing the same route every year has merit (year on year comparison etc.), I am personally excited to see a longer lap as strategy for the teams in particular will be interesting to observe. I think the longer route favors the riders with big engines opposed to the more explosive XC specialists in the team category. Solo will always be about the big engines, so I don't expect major strategy changes there.

OK, but if the laps are longer, it means it will be so much more difficult for team riders to get their medals for completing 8 laps.

My son is not going to be very happy for missing out on those ST in the forest and past the ravine. So basically it will be a bore-fest.

I'm sure that the min lap requirements will be amended, and with regards to the 'borefest', encourage him to ride the new course first before making up his mind about it.

I am sure night riding will be safer, but I was really looking forward to ride the ST past the ravine at night. Those ST at night were my son's favourite part of the whole 24H race, so much that we had a family fight about how many laps each rider will do at night.

But why???

That single track next to the river is the only motivation to go up the hill in the first place...

according to this...the rain
