Jason Posted March 27, 2017 Share Good morning Has anyone ordered road shoes from http://www.chainreactioncycles.com I'd like to know more or less what the VAT/Customs will be? Just a rough estimated figure for shoes costing R3500.00 Thank you Edited March 27, 2017 by Jason

Ttocs Posted March 27, 2017 Share Clothing and shoes, pretty much double the price and shipping costs and that should be your all in landed costs. Jason
Spinnekop Posted March 27, 2017 Share 15% VAT, 30-40% duties. Shoes are a big eina. Jason and T-Bob
Kalahari Vegmot Posted March 27, 2017 Share I think it's something like 40percent? Ask the question in the "import duties on cycling goods" threaf Jason
Jason Posted March 27, 2017 Share Thanks chaps... I ordered kit from Europe and the customs was only R2k which I thought wasn't too bad... So shoes more or less the same?
Baracuda Posted March 27, 2017 Share Annoyingly, cycling shoes are classified as "clothing" under our import taxes. Look up the most recent import duties for clothing and add VAT (as mentioned above). I have been burnt by this before. After the whole hannabaloo, they cost very much the same as the bike shop down the road.
m-squared Posted March 27, 2017 Share Thanks chaps... I ordered kit from Europe and the customs was only R2k which I thought wasn't too bad... So shoes more or less the same? Shoes are 3,500 + Customs (1,400) + VAT 700 A tad more than R2k but excludes shipping costs, SARS wonderful rate of exchange and the 10% customs value being ignored in the above cacl KingTJ and Jason
allez Posted March 27, 2017 Share I use Chainreaction where possible (depends on the deal and what I need) Have a look at this thread for dicussions on importing... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/75887-import-duties-on-cycling-goods/ Jason
T-Bob Posted March 27, 2017 Share 15% VAT, 30-40% duties. Shoes are a big eina. This... I got sent a pair of shoes as a B/day present and the taxes were massive on the commercial invoice. They were a R4000 pair of road shoes. Almost sent them back when I rocked up at the the post office and was presented the bill.

BigDL Posted March 27, 2017 Share R 3500 *1.4 * 1.154 = R 5,654At that price I would be expecting the shoes to ride my bike for me, wash it after and perhaps even a happy ending Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Captain Fastbastard Mayhem and Long Wheel Base
