Crater Cruise 2017

Hey everyone,

Has anyone got information on this race?

When ever I try and Google search it, each and every time I come to the page that says that the 2016 edition has been cancelled.

I'd love to ride it for the 1st time, but have no info to read up on as of yet. Unless, I'm missing something?!

Look forward to your response..

Bruce

I have 2016 Crater Cruise, 2017 CTCT, L'Etape, and Swartberg 100 all cancelled.

Just warning folks that I have entered Karoo2Coast.........

If I ride there from home, will the cyclists racing cars to the start give me space on the Kopjeskraal road?

I really hope so, maybe if you do the christmas tree impersonisation. ;-)

Im thinking of entering for the 38 KM Ride. Will be my 1st event

No better event to do your first race than the Crater Cruise. Keep a lookout, lots of Potchefstromers will be there.

Only pity, IMHO, is that it is no longer a weekend event where one could do a longer and a shorter ride on separate days. There is probably a good reason for the change, but the old format is something I used to enjoy.

I'm keen to enter but a bit nervous at the same time.

I see they have a sweep vehicle at 12:00 per their website. If you start at 7:30, which I doubt I will as I'm assuming there will be batches, my maths says that is an average speed of +- 15.1km /hr. This is a tough route with 1 405m of climbing over 68km, not flat and fast, and in my mind it will be very tough to average that speed.

I'm second guessing myself as to paying R350 (more than a Trailseeker) and travelling from Joburg just to possibly get a DNF.

I'm no rookie but not a race snake either.

Or am I just over analysing this....

Any thoughts?

I see the cutt off is at 12pm at the 45 Km mark. So that would give you 4:30 hours to get there at about 10km an hour.

Anyone gave an idea how many people entered for this?

Thanks, I got an update from the organiser which agrees with what you say. I misread the website.

The route is a bit longer as well. 73km vs 68km.
