Pure Savage Posted July 12, 2017 Share Hi All, Kittel is loving his balance bike with drop bars: He still has some time on the bike, about a year a reckon. There is no rush in my opinion to get him off the balance bike, the major reason would be when his younger brother wants to use it, so about 2 years time. I would like some input into building a very light weight carbon bike for a 4-6 year old. What wheel size? 20inch? Crank - can you tap into an aluminum normal crank to make shorter cranks? Whats the narrowest standard road bars? Any other tips? DJuice
dirtypot Posted July 12, 2017 Share 16" for a 4-6 year old. But why road bars? Surely the kid wants to be cool? A mountain bike is the only way... cdevil, Mongoose! and Andrew Barkley

Pure Savage Posted July 12, 2017 Share carbon bike for a 4 year old.....did you forget to use comic sans? Biggest problem with kiddies bikes are the weight. As carbon is light thought it was logical. As a % of total mass, the bike makes up a huge percent compared to adults.
Pure Savage Posted July 12, 2017 Share https://www.twowheelingtots.com/specialized-hotrock-12-review/ Some good stuff here. The basic idea. Take a destroyed carbon adult bike and basically cut it up and make it smaller. Chilled. This way, BB, drop outs, steerer and seat tube all standard. Pure Savage Posted July 12, 2017 Share Key I have picked up: Low BB, long wheel base, low front end. Make sure knees are not too bent.

Will get 16" To be honest, he wants what dad is riding. Also, I may have brain washed him a little. Whenever he rides with friends, he either sits on their rear wheel, or blasts past shouting hammer!!!! Gen, HBO, fanievb and 1 other
