Hey

I'm looking to buy a 29er dual suspension mountain bike for under 25k? Any suggestions?

Currently looking at:

(1) Silverback Sido 3 (2017) = R23k with tubeless conversion.

(2) Fuji Outland 1.0 Satin Black Red 2016 = R20k

(3) Fuji Outland 1.1 29" Mountain Bike (2017) = R20k

(4) Cannondale Rush 2 29" Mountain Bike = R23k

(5) Merida Ninety SIX 9.600 Black/Blue (2017) = R24k

(6) Scott Spark 960 29'' Mountain Bike 2017 = R25k

Welcome Daan, you'll get varied opinions here but of those I'd take no. 6

Consider 2nd hand also maybe, some great bikes out there.

I have only been cycling for a year now so my issue with 2nd hand is that it is difficult for me to assess if the condition is any good.

Welcome Daan.

Starting point of your decision must always be:

  • current level of skill
  • desired riding tracks (flat, single track, DH etc.)
  • short, medium and long-term goal of riding

Then pick bike to suit those goals.

Hubbers will pick their personal fave - it's a personal decision based on so many variables.

Good luck dude

Of these, the Scott & the Cannondale, with a preference for the Scott.

From the above list - SCOTT would be my choice as well. I agree with with Bullet77 2nd hand will get you more bang for your buck. More important is to find the correct size you need and then hunt the 2nds for a deal.

Scrap Fuji off your list. I've heard that once again they don't have a distributor in SA. You could battle with warranty issues and parts if something breaks on your frame.

It's a pity because they are a good brand.

I would go for the Scott, the 2017 model is a great all rounder.

Hi Guys.

Tagging along on this topic.

I am a total noob looking to buy my first bike.

Gravel roads, singletracks and offroad will be my main riding type.

Which of these 2 bikes would you choose?

I love the look of the Cube, and it seems to have pretty decent components meaning it should take me a while before wanting/having to upgrade.

1) CUBE STEREO 120 HPA PRO (2017)

2) SCOTT SPARK 960 (2017)

Thanks in advance.

Geno
