moonlight Posted October 12, 2006 Share This was a post to the Adventure Race Community if you are interested: Dear Fellow CyclistsAs you are aware, safety is an issue which is uppermost in the minds of all cyclists. The Central Gauteng Cycling Committee has been working closely with the Gauteng Department of Transport on various projects to improve the safety for cyclists. One is the approval of road signage which will be provided by the cycling community warning of the presence of cyclists on various routes. The other is cycling specific lanes in certain areas. Whilst there is much work to be done, we have the opportunity to once again raise awareness of the issue by supporting the MEC of the Department of Transport during Car Free Day (20 October 2006). The MEC has specifically agreed to the involvement of cyclists as part of this project and will himself ride a bicycle through the city centre together with as many cyclists as we can muster. Two groups will depart between 8.00 a.m and 9.00 a.m and cycle under Metro escort to Park station, one from Southgate, the other from Fourways mall. The combined group will then depart from Park station and ride, led by the MEC to various points in the city. Thereafter the groups will once again split up and return to their starting points under Metro escort. We need your help to make this a success.a..
