Painting aluminum mtb frame.

I've got a mostly black mtb with red and white signage with a fork with black lowers. It's a 2013 Merida big nine 29er tfs500 that's got some scuff marks and spots where it seems as if the paint is very dull.

I want to respray it at some stage, but what color/colors? I'm tempted on going completely matt black?

If you are married, what is your wife’s favorite colour?

My wife likes red, when I spend money on new toys I always make sure they are red. Then she usually goes “oh how pretty” and not “oh, how much did that cost”.

I had 2 white bikes and I must agree, they always looked dirty.

What if your wife's favourite colour changes all the time!

Also if I was redoing my bike I would hydrodip it. Some patterns look really shoddy, and patterns like multicam could cause you to lose your bike completely...

If one goes matt black, do I still spray a clear finishing coat over?

Clear coat creates a shiny surface and would not work. I have seen some matt clear in some cases but tends to make the colour under it "milky" looking.

Matt black - only paint matt black.

No - satin and flat blacks don't get clearcoated.

You could use a flat clearcoat over black base coat but seems over complicated to me.
