Bitsy Posted March 18, 2018 Share Hello guys, I find my existing Fizik Arione R7 very uncomfortable and hard after about 1.5 hrs in the saddle- this is on my road bike (BMC Teammachine SLR02). I was contemplating purchasing a Specialised Phenom saddle but see they also have a seat post that will provide comfort. Which will be a better option for my road bike. 1. Get the Specialized Phenom Saddle (have this on my MTB and quite like it)or 2. Try out the Specialized CG-R carbon seat post with existing Fizikhttps://www.specialized.com/za/en_GB/cg-r-carbon-seatpost/p/130709?color=219737-130709 Thanks. Zatek Posted March 19, 2018 Share How often do you ride?I would change the saddle. The Phenom is working for you so. If you change the seat post and find out its the saddle thats old or that you don't ride enough.
Fat Boab Posted March 19, 2018 Share If you already have a phenom on your MTB, why not swap it across to your road bike and test it for free? Thereafter, if required, you could ponder a CG-R seatpost, but if your experiencing discomfort after 'only' 1.5 hrs on the road, my $0.02 would be its the fit of the saddle that's to blame rather than a bit of road noise, so the CG-R maybe a futile purpose? Mongoose! Posted March 19, 2018 Share Rather go for a bike fit first. Watched a Youtube video a while back and according to it, most cases for uncomfortable saddles origin to handlebar positioning....Guess not always the case, but at least you will know your position is correct before spending money on expensive saddles. Agreed, poach the saddle from your MTB and test it, you'll quickly know where the problem is. If you still hurt, then it was obvious that the problem was not your Fizik. Traveler Posted March 19, 2018 Share Rather go for a bike fit first. Watched a Youtube video a while back and according to it, most cases for uncomfortable saddles origin to handlebar positioning....Guess not always the case, but at least you will know your position is correct before spending money on expensive saddles. It actually goes hand in hand. Or should I say hand in butt. Bad saddle position or wrong saddle (too small a bike) can manifest in hand/wrist pain because you will shift more weight to your torso/shoulders. This will then lead to your shoulder blades pulling up and adding pressure to your hands.Bad handlebars will for many people have an impact in pain in their shoulders first, which will then move down to lower back and then in your backside. It is also impacted by the amount of core strength you have. If you can ride, and slowly come into an upright position without pushing of the bars with your hands/arms in your riding position; and you can still remain balanced with ease on the bike, then the position of your bars vs. saddle is correct and your problem then is in the equipment itself. If the problem originates in your backside and only after 1.5hrs I'd start with the saddle. Duane_Bosch Posted March 19, 2018 Share It sounds like you already have the solution. The Arione is a saddle we all kind of wish we could use. They look amazing and the pro's use them. But if you are more of a normal human being they are a bit much. You already have a saddle you like on your mtb. Measure the setup on the mtb (so you can replicate it later) and try the mtb saddle on your roadie. If it works then get one for the roadie. If you let the Arione go you won't struggle for takers. Or better yet chuck it in your spares box and when you sell your bike put it back on. I think every even moderately serious cyclist has a Fizik saddle knocking about in his spares box that he can't stand the thought of sitting on.
