Hi all,

I recently received a Raleigh El Dorado Platinum Series MTB. Any idea what the exact model is?

Thanks

Wow, you've got your hands on a collector's item there, bud.

With some spit 'n polish you could sell that beauty for a very, very good price.

Nice going!

Thanks!

Any idea what model it is though? I think it was manufactured pre-2008.

Be very careful these were super highly desirable when they came out and limited edition.

Altus is the best you can get, top of the range crisp shifting.

What you need to check is if it is actually made of platinum or cheaper chromoly. Use a magnet, if it sticks then unfortunately you don't have the really expensive model.

Not quite sure who is playing who here...

But try bikepedia.com, you might have to browse through the year models.

Sorry for the confusion - it seems obvious that it's a Raleigh El Dorado, but I can't find any information on it anywhere.

That's pretty old. I think about 1999 or so. I have a magazine somewhere where that did a review on it.

That particular model was unique to SA. Info on it may be pretty scare on the internet I might be wrong on this, but it may have been designed by Victor Momsen (now of Momsen Bikes). He would have worked for them at the time.

Very cool dynamo. I haven't seen one of those since the 80s when mine went into my spokes

LOL - no worries. Not trying to sell it, just trying to find any specs on it. I'll give bikepedia.com a try.
