My sister-in-law lives in Spain. She was also diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer about Nov 2018.

Her story is very similar to yours.

I have a lot of sympathy for you as I know what my family is going through.

Cannabis oil helps her a lot. She is getting chemo.

Sad to say I did not. Aurina Ford screwed up as I always take out insurance for work or disease. They did not apply that to my loan.

 

Could never afford life or dread cover, till I started the job I am being retrenched from, but tried to make a dent in my debt.

 

After getting sick I got deeper in debt, if you have a job, you pay for public health care (aka you pay to go to Steve Biko)

CBD works great, but not the crap you get in SA.

My brother got some CBD in Italy. Works much better than the black 1ml you get here in SA.

I found a medical Cannabis Dispensary, they are very expensive, but hope it helps more than the black crap.

 

I also started vaping CBD, it is faster acting when needed.

Was not an option that I liked, but at this stage I want to get clean from this cancer. Smoking was a vice that I stopped 10 years ago, and vaping was the last thing I wanted to do

Is getting placed on Temp / Permanent Disability at work an option for you?

Doubt it.  I am 100% fine.  Most people that know me for years do not know that I have cancer until I tell them.  The biggest irritation is the stoma.  It hampers me a bit. I can't pick up heavy things anymore.

The company is attempting to get rid of me.

Even suspended me yesterday, because I consulted a labour lawyer and used some of the phone recordings on our PBX where the CEO made lots of claims and lies, and then verbally calling me a liar, saying we are not being retrenched, but lay off. And that was not communicated to us at all.

And they are not going to go on for much longer.

There are no sacred cows, always go for the jugular from day one.

 

The company typically does so once once they make up their minds. This is coming from a business owner (that really stresses about my staff), if I need to let someone go, I need to make sure my ducks are in a row (I have been burnt before) and try to do it in a civil manner. But it never goes down that way, so these days it is a clinical procedure, and you should also approach it that way too.

 

Leave emotion out of it, it makes it so much easier.

So sorry about your situation bud. Make sure you follow the advice of your lawyer to the t. So many strong hr cases lost because of poor process.

I decided (had to due to health) to take the route of a settlement.

 

It was not done as it should have been done, but I have a fight of cancer to fight, and the stress of all this screwed me health wise, and that in just two weeks. Fighting a piece of excrement for months in a CCMA case will push the stress levels up more than it is at the moment.

 

Now it is just to find work again. Went for 2 interviews last week. One company wanted me to move my chemo day. And the one company are willing to work around the chemo treatment. But most companies are not willing to take on a person when they hear you have cancer and are still in treatment.

 

I still miss cycling. Will try to get on the spinning bike this week

I don't want to post this but received the dreaded phone call 23 November 2018 with the confirmation.

I have been diagnosed with colon cancer. They found a 10cm tumor

 

Update:  CT Marked the tumor as 14cm's.  The cancer was found to have spread to some lymph nodes, my spleen and to my liver.

 

Currently, I am still a little shocked, but it is one of those things. And all the signs were there the past weeks.

 

I have a bit of discomfort while cycling and toilet breaks are more frequent, so will do shorter distances.

 

But are there any risk, can I cause more damage? I need to do something to take my mind of things and cycling will be one way.  The specialist is very hard to get hold of.  And I do not have a treatment plan as yet.  I know there is a wealth of knowledge here.  So this is not to get sympathy or anything.  I just need to know will I still be able to cycle?

 

I know during chemo I will not be able to and after the operation to remove the tumor there will be some downtime.  But before all this takes place.  Will I be able to ride...

 

Hey Cois, sorry to hear about your cancer. The news is tough, I only recently received the same bad news - stage 3 melanoma, spreading to lymph nodes. It's been pretty hectic over the last 2 months; and now I have an autoimmune response affecting my eyes, just to complicate matters.

 

Regarding riding whilst sick... (my personal view)

 

Trying to maintain some normality (although it'll never be normal again for me) has been the best thing I can do to help me cope. I simply can't just sit around and hope. So, I've been trying to get on my bike as much as possible. I've done short rides, turbo trainer rides, multi-day bikepacking rides, trail runs, walks... as much as possible since being diagnosed. Hell, I've even entered the Silk Road Mountain Race in August, so have something to aim at, something to distract me, motivate me and keep me positive. (started writing about it in one of the BH forums)

 

Sometimes I can't ride (when it's dark I can't see very well) so I jump on the indoor trainer. I believe my body will tell me when I simply can't anymore, but until then I'm riding as much as possible. They say, being fit and healthy is good for recovery.
