MTB trails Montagu area

Hi all.

 

Did do some searching but can't seem to find any MTB trails in the Montagu area.

 

Going this weekend and fancy a ride, ideally not just a jeep track / gravel road ride, can't seem to find anything.

 

Someone mentioned a 38km trail which was part of a previous Epic.

 

Any suggestions.

As far as I know there are no mtb trails in the Montage area, there are a few district gravel roads. There is a farm outside town with a campsite called Doring Laagte that has some jeep track trails, but thats about it.

 

If you drive about 15km through the pass to Ashton there are some trails on wine farms in that area. Viljoensdrift is one and there is an annual race that starts and finishes at the Van Loveren wine farm so I expect them to have a route aswell.

This area is where the Cape Epic went through earlier this year.

 

Thats about all I can do to help, I would advise you to give Viljoensdrift and Van Loveren a call for more info.

There is quite a bit of rof riding to be done in the area, if not manicured trails.

 

I think the best source of latest info is going to be de bos https://www.debos.co.za/things-to-do/

 

If you want to drive then Robertson has some options. Van loveren java trails are open and include the viljoensdrift property.

Unfortunately it's gravel, but going out to and up Ouberg is a lekker ride.  Will do it sometime next week.  May even consider the full loop around to Burgerspas and back to town.

 

Also combination of road and gravel is going to the 2 dams, Pietersfontein and Poortjieskloof.

Can just confirm what the others said - the reason you can't find any is because there aren't any..

 

Drive out to Robertson if you want to do trails

 

Ouberg pass is a nice gravel ride if you want to do a proper climb + a fast downhill

Not a lot of choices in Montagu as a lot of trails go over private property.

Try and hook up with some locals.

 

Roberstson will be better. Speak to Kobus at Van Tonder Fietse or Kotie at Route 62 Cycles in Robertson. They will be able to help.
