Because the scam is they find a dump of hacked website info with names/emails/passwords, they start emailing people claiming to have all kinds of incriminating info about them and use the password/info they have to "prove" the veracity of their claim and then demand a ransom failing which they "release" your info. No sensitive info was leaked and security not compromised as email is not used for login info.
