Whats the equivalent of a Honda Jazz......asking for a friend  :whistling:

Honda Jazz = Cheap an reliable, without the whole “ brand” bling factor if I have it right?

Your advice has been so helpful - Thank you

Thought I'd sum up so far - but please feel to add additional suggestions:

Giant TCR - Advanced Disc, latest Shimano R7000 hydraulic brake groupset

Cannondale Caad - very light, better than other entry carbon bikes

Cannondale Supersix

Silverback Sirelli 2

Specialized Tarmac

Should definitely aim for hydraulic brake groupset, 25c tyres, 10 speed but 11 speed easier in that price bracket

Dont aim for anything that's too exclusive or proprietary as will be difficult to get spares in the coming years.

Please feel free to add any other info

Since talking about other car types, would Bianchi be a Porsche? :)

With a budget of R30 000 and 'hopefully' a good seeding for CTCT, any recommendations of what road bike I should buy?

New or Used? Been riding a Raleigh RC-1800 for past 8yrs. Bike Fit assessment says frame size 56/58.

Is there like a Toyota Fortuner of road cycling that everyone buys … reliable, plenty of spare parts and very sharp. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Not just brands but specific type of bikes I should look out for.

general recipe for a sub 3:

good seeding*:30%

decent fitness:20%

skills to ride in a bunch:5%

half decent bicycle**:5%

favourable weather: 40%

*you want to be in G/H or lower

**by half decent bicycle I mean any roadbike.

Argus is very flat, so weight of bike counts for very little.

I second this. Seeding is major. I did a sub 3 years ago on a seriously heavy high tensile steel framed down tube shifting monster. By the end my recently rebuilt rear wheel was so wonky people were laughing at me. But I was fit and in D group and the weather was beaut. Lance is right.

Whatever Bianch is, Colnago is the Ferrari of bikes :)

Just kidding, Bianch is right up there with them, maybe the Maserati of bikes?

(Lamborghini ts just too flashy for a traditional company like Bianchi)

Yep. if the OP's old bike was good enough to get him a "Sub-3"-group seeding it's good enough to ride a Sub-3 on it.

But if he has the 30K for a better bike, why not?

You mean a Toyota (un)Fortuner?

My boet has one. That thing feels like it's gonna fall over every time I'm in it. I wouldn't want a bike that has the same characteristics.

It's not about the bike, it is about the drugs. For 30k you can buy lots of EPO and steroids, and that will make you faster than a new bike - that's what I would do.
