Hi guys - I’m doing my first RtC next month so I thought I’d get into the swing of things by becoming a dotwatcher this week for the main RASA event.

But for the life of me I can’t find how - the dotwatcher.cc website doesn’t seem to mention FC at all, and all bikehub forums seem to have gone very quiet on all things FC.

Is there a website or an app? The FC website itself also doesn’t have any links or information on this...

OK so reading this thread properly now, including Chris’s summary, I get the impression that the commentary has moved away from bikehub to a large extent, to FB and WhatsApp (with the latter probably too busy for me personally).

I was thinking that dotwatching included literally watching dots on a map - is that right? If so, my main question remains: what platform does that reside on?

You are correct it does involve literally watching a dot. I'm sure FC will publish a link before tomorrow when the first batch kicks off. It's normally on the MaProgress platform if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: Here it is

Thanks guys, been looking for the Tracker. Got 2 mates doing the Race To Paarl this year, Blanket wearer Erik Egeland and JG Wardle, a legend in his own mind from Cathcart, Thomas River MTB trail boss.

the guy who won the covid delayed Spring* event last year is racing very very minimal for winter this year, here's his bike setup(no backpack)

May be an image of bicycle and outdoors

that is min. With the cold front that just passed (is passing) Cape Town, I hope he has some warm kit there somewhere.

tyre discussion.

Alex posted his racebike on the munga fb page yesterday.

It's a momsen Vipa, same as last year. Whilst the small amount of kit he's taking seems a gamble, (I guess he won't have much in the way of spares), the tyre choice has piqued my mind more.

He seems to be sponsored by hutchinson so might not have had much options, but he's gone with Griffus 29 x 2.5 and according to this pic front and back

they look VERY bulky to me. so i did some googling, they are dry condition DH/freeride tyres similiar to maxxis DHF.

 https://www.bikemag.com/gear/components/tires-components-gear/tested-hutchinson-griffus-2-4-and-2-5/

you're "supposed" to run the 2.4 on the rear, but he has both of the wider ones which are 1120g each.

seems like an odd choice where you want to minimise rolling resistance https://off.road.cc/content/review/tyres/hutchinson-griffus-25-hardskin-tyre-review-6585

Quote

Having ridden the Griffus on the driest of hardpack, loose gravel, some lovely loamy goodness and on truly soggy trails, I can say that grip is consistent and confident. It makes for a great all-round tyre – it's a little nervous on seriously steep and sloppy trails, and obviously not light or fast enough for cross-country work, but for general trail and descending fun it excels.

you might be wondering why this thread has been quiet.

it's because the OP (charl) is currently riding it.

he's going to have a very long day if he doesn't realise soon WTF is going on.
