5000km later and multiple Sludge topups later the sealant was anything but white ...

I dont have good experiences with debeading a tire and reseating it ....

So how to get the old sludge out ... without debeading the tire.

Thin copper tube to pass through the valve, and a syringe.  Worked a charm 😁

Insert the tube until it touches the tyre, lift a mm and extract the old sludge

Popped in at Mark this morning.

Saw this handy tool, Giant branded packaging.

Safety glasses look to be a good investment for any tool box

Safety glasses most under-rated and under-used tool in any kind of workshop for sure.

I'll be the first to admit that I use the old "safety squints" and "safety jandals" (the Kiwi word for flip-flops/plakkies) way more often than I should 😶😅

+1, you have one accident where they would have saved you pain. From that day on every standing tool has it's own pair and every tool box has a few pairs.

Early 90's I was doing some arc welding at home .... back in the day with those old DARK helmets.  Finished a bead of welding, walked away for a moment, came back and used the chipping hammer .... small chip straight into my eye !!  Had to phone a friend to take me to ER on the Saturday afternoon ....

Fair to say I have a nice collection of safety glasses .....

About 5 years back I was busy with some metal work.  Rough sanding disc on the grinderette to finish off the steel before going to the galvanising .... YES, I was using my safety glasses, and even my ear muffs (used for longer jobs).  I removed the glasses and wiped off the sweat from my forehead with the sleave of my top .... SMALL piece of steel got stuck in my eye !!

I did not even feel it, did not even know about it .... Washed up and realised my eye is "itchy" when I close it.  Thought nothing of it at the time ....

The FUN started when I went to bed !!!  As soon as I closed my eye my eyelid would press against this and cause the worst kind of pain !!!!!!!

Drove to ER .... they did the dye droplet .... they tried the magnet .... eventually realised the only solution was to wait it out until the eye specialist opened the next morning ... THAT was a damn long 9 hour wait !!!!

I'll admit to not wearing safety glasses for most things I should wear them for, but there are a few jobs I dont go without. The one is something most people would not think about, weed eating / edge trimming. Having been hit in the safety glasses with small stones a number of times, I dont go without.

One of the other activities most SAFFAs dont think about wearing some eye protection is squash. I got properly knocked on the eye brow with a racket once,  6 stitches. I still finished the match and then drove home from Rivonia to Alberton. Since then always wear eye protection.

Wearing of Safety glasses is drilled into us as appies in aviation. You DON'T want to get caught without them by someone your senior. So it's like 2nd nature to me now. When I was still at SAAT, I pretty much wore them all day and now that I'm not, I pretty much wear them all day at home on the weekends. Even for silly woodwork jobs they prevent a fair amount of dust. I have a few pairs of decent ones.

I did a factory rolls royce engine course a few years back and the instructor had company issued Oakley safety glasses. I was drooling because they looked very similar to my cycling glasses😂

Good reminders; every now and then I pick up a Dremel with only a face shield or magnifier and get a few reminders of why proper safety specs are needed.

Ditto for hearing protection, gloves and shoes although maybe not as critical. Just one tiny piece of red hot steel can liven up your senses in a somewhat negative way sadly.

those thin cutting blades are amazing for damaged bolts, but man they can fly apart like no mans business

Wera Tool-Check Plus

They make a Bicycle version too that looks pretty awesome

Buy Wera BICYCLE SET 3 TOOL KIT | ROSE Bikes

The little card at the bottom allows one to decant the essentials into an even smaller kit

Did you get this set, and if so, whats the torque wrench like?

My last visit to my optometrist, I saw she had some flowers and chocolate on her desk. I asked if it was her birthday. She said no. Its a "thank you" gift from a guy who she helped remove metal from his eye. He was grinding "commando" and got some in his eye.

I replied with a "that will teach him". She said actually no, it was his second time there. Some people will never learn.

Off topic, but you worked at SAAT? My dad did too (until last year that is, obviously). Pierre Labuschagne. Plumpish fellow with what used to be a ginger bokbaard, now a bushy white one.

Swiftly getting back on topic, anyone know where I can find one of these, or have an extra one to sell to me? I've been searching for quite some time and have come up short. TL-PD40, used to disassemble Shimano PD-M520 pedals. The set of pedals I inherited with Tennisball have a bit of axle play that I want to sort out, and need this little oke to do that. I've tried McGuyvering it, but those plastic splines are pretty easy to smush.

I'm normally pretty good when brush-cutting. Forgot my face shield a couple of months back and managed a shard of wood pegged into my face about a cm below my eye. Was a good reminder .

I got one off Amazon a couple of years ago. Let me know if you don't come right and I can order one here and post it over.
