No ways I am going to tell you guys how far(or short) my commute is. I need to leave at 04h30 just to extend my commute to the same sort of distance as some of you.

You're also in Sandton area? Nothing is flat around here! At least that's what i keep telling myself if I take an hour to cycle 14 km  ...

Morning elevation is around 100m in 16km, afternoon is about 200m.

However it is gradual, but about 8km up without a break.

This year is a complete write off for me. Tomorrow may well be my first commute back since March, if I can only build up the courage to go back in to office.

Bleh...

Nah, I stay on the east rand(edenvale). Work at the airport. I live lower than the airport, direct to work is 8km and 100m of climbing, home is only 50m. I start early so in order to shower and get ready on time I need to be at the airport around 06h00. If I can wake up early enough, I make the commute longer but with 3 small kids it's been tough lately.

A budget specialised cycle computer; pretty much elapsed time, distance, total distance, that’s it.

Never used Strava, and do not own a watch with altimeter, will check out another hubber suggested Komoot, and see what that spits out.

Cheers

Chris

What about loading strava or endomondo on your phone? Both will give you the ascent.

OK .... GOING TO BE GOING BACK TO WORKING IN TOWN NEXT WEEK ... AND I AM COMING FOR YOU LOT AS I SEE THERE IS A BIT OF KM TO MAKE UP AFTER NOT LOGGING ANY COMMUTES FOR THE LAST SEVEN MONTHS ! ! !

Ag no man Hairy - I was hoping to catch you before the end of next week.

How far do you guys commute ?

Total round trip for me is 33km.

Hairy I dont think I'm any threat to you or Cat-i even if you log no more commutes for the rest of the year.

Looking forward to it Hairy!!!

Official word is that we will be back at full time work again, but will remain working from home till potentially into the new year.

At least this helps a little as I have taken on private work during the slump and still need to be available to take care of things now till they are completed....so being at home allows me to do both the private work and "work work" :P

When we all start commuting again we'll have to find another fitness app to log our rides. Endomondo will cease to exist on 31 Dec 2020.

Not that I'm part of this challenge anymore, but I just read an email to the same effect now. I'm sure you clever lot will figure something out for 2021 though..

Unfortunately we will start seeing more and more "free" stuff disappear. Can't blame them, we all need to make a living in these tough times. and TBH they competing against apps like strava and garmin connect who have a lot more users. Very few people will choose to pay for more than one app that does the same thing.

Now to get Strava to allow you to create challanges like in Endomondo.

Loved the stats that was available on Endomondo - last year I could keep tabs on everyone's weekly/monthly mileage, insights into riding patterns, see when the patterns changed - for me, last year was as much an exercise in data mining than it was in being outside for longer.

Those types of stats isn't available on Strava - or Iif they are, I dont know where to look.

I see on their email they suggest MapMyRun. nayone got experience with that?
