philbg Posted March 12, 2020 Share Good Day Guys, I have been running a 9 speed set of Shimano Flight Deck STi on my monster cross bike for some time. I have this paired to a SLX long cage 9 speed derailleur and 9 speed wide range cassette (11-40). This set up has been working fine. However, I do get quite a bit of chain drop especially on grassy tracks and corrugation roads ( I am running a narrow wide single front blade). So my question is, I have a spare clutched 10 speed XTR derailleur, would I be able to run this with the 9 speed STi, are the pull ratios compatible? Thanks. Fat Boab Posted March 12, 2020 Share As far as I know...no. But 10 speed STI and 9 sp RD, yes. But you didn't ask that! I seem to remember someone here suggesting that clutched 9 sp RD either aren't made or are as rare as the tooth of a female chicken... Perhaps someone can confirm or otherwise? Emile Posted March 12, 2020 Share It will not work. Maybe a Chain Tamer would help? ... philbg Posted March 13, 2020 Share Thanks for the replies, I suspected as much. That Chain Tamer looks good for this purpose.
