Homebrew IDT Steerable Riser Block

I've been wanting to try out the Zwift steerable courses and also upgrade the horrible riser block my IDT came with. I'm probably not on a sufficiently high level yet to do the courses, but I found this SUPER COOL 3D printable design  :nuke: on Thingiverse (similar to this): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4239532

I'm curious if anyone else has given this a go (or wants to give it a go)?

This is my current print progress (started this morning):

I'm using clear PETG filament due to availability ( :excl:), ease of use and low thermal expansion coefficients.

I don't have bearings, so I'll have to print those too. PETG is good for moving parts apparently.

Well done

When does production start and do bikehub members have priority/ discounted rates?

is this an essential service ... when can he ship ?

SURE he can sell a good few units ....

adapting the design to fit wider tires should not be too difficult .... wider opening, while keeping the riser dimensions, thus just a larger outside diameter.  Bearing spacing should still be okay.

Haha, cool to see some interest :D

haha, thanks. This is someone else's design, I was thinking other Bikehub members might also have 3D printers (there's a lot of cool stuff for cycling online). No idea what I'd charge to make them.

The design files are available as both STL and TinkerCAD. The Tinker files appear to be editable in a web browser! I'll give editing them a try later :D

-edit- I could probably just make the entire thing bigger by 25%.

How long was printing time?

Can always change the bearings in future if needs be.

I'm printing using a 0.2mm layer height with speed prioritised over quality. The lower the resolution the faster the speed. The base took about 5 hours to print and the remaining components (top part, "bearings", shafts and shaft retainers (not hugely necessary I've found)) took about 8 hours to print. This could probably be accelerated to a total of 4 hours for everything if the resolution was dropped to half and the bearings were excluded.

I increased the size of the entire design by 125% and began printing the top end yesterday. I've also dropped the infill from 20% down to 10% (PETG is crazy strong).

Starting the print last night:

Yay it fits my MTB's 2.35" tyres:

The revised base and wheels are currently printing and should be done around 18:00 today.

This is pretty cool, also been wanting to give it a go and test out our SP Connect phone mount systems with the Zwift Steer

The base finished printing earlier this evening and it all fits/works really nicely. The print was done using PETG, only 10% infill and the model was scaled to 125% of the original published on Thingiverse. The different colours were due to me using leftover filament/offcuts. Still gotta try it out properly tomorrow. I'm hoping it'll be better than the Wahoo block.

This has been an interesting thread to follow - Not to hijack your project could you give us mere mortals info on 3d printing.

What do you need in terms of hardware

What is the cost to set up a home diy system

I'd really be interested in setting something up for a new hobby project
