Fork-it Posted May 31, 2020 Share Hi My wife and I are in the market for MTB's. I have been trolling the online sites but I am not sure if I am missing something. I would prefer to buy new. Please let me have you recommendations. Let's start off with saying around R12K for my wife and R15K for me.... I'm looking for the best value for money hardtails for weekend riding, shorter races etc. Thank you.
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted May 31, 2020 Share At the moment, specialized is having fantastic specials on their bikes. Well worth a look. You’d be able to get a rockhopper or maybe even a chisel for that cash. You won’t be able to beat that value anywhere else at the moment. Yyyy Posted May 31, 2020 Share In terms of bang for buck you cant beat these For him https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/mtb/products/titan-drone-expert-2020 for her https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/mtb/products/titan-drone-calypso-expert-2020 Not the best drivetrains but something that you can upgrade over time. Titan has good warranty on their products. Frames are more modern and much better spec'ed than any Spaz can offer at this price. Titan has good warranty on their products. Fork-it Posted May 31, 2020 Share So, the Titans above the Spez?Good suggestions, thank you. Perhaps something slightly better for me?I'm not really into tinkering and upgrading every once in a while. Me rida my bicycle Posted May 31, 2020 Share https://bike-addict.co.za/products/titan-drone-elite-2020?_pos=4&_sid=4cbb231ee&_ss=rThis would be best value and nothing needed to upgrade. The fork and groupset cost more than the bike. So basically paying for the fork and groupset and getting the rest for free. So my wife likes the idea (read colour) of the Merida Big nine 500. But it seems like stock is depleted everywhere. Any suggestions in this range? https://bike-addict.co.za/collections/mtb/products/merida-big-nine-500-2020

My wife would bliksem me if |I spent more on my bike than hers Whatever you do, make sure that the fork has an air spring (not elastomer) Oh, and do not buy a bike that might be the wrong size because it seems like a good deal Edited May 31, 2020 by splat Fork-it

Yes at this price range Titan > Spez I made a negative comment about the drivetrain but the reality is most bikes at that price range (even Spez) is going to have that low level quality drivetrain (and even potentially worse in other components) what "Me ride my bicycle" showed is the same bike just with superior components. ChrisF Posted May 31, 2020 Share Another vote for the TITAN bikes. YES - make SURE to buy the correct size bikes. And if it is a semi decent bike shop, plan to spend 30 minutes per bike for the bike fit. Fork-it
