cliff_ross Posted June 11, 2020 Share Hi hubbers Had a thought the other day and wanted to see if anyone had tried it or something similar. Has anyone tried putting road bike tires 700c of say 28 mm on a 29er rim ( 20mm inner rim width) to use as a "slick" for road use? This way you could us the same bicycle for both on and off road riding. Just wanted to see if it had been done and what the impression was. sias Posted June 11, 2020 Share I have a road tire on my MTB rim on the trainer - no problems. DieselnDust
droo Posted June 11, 2020 Share Looks a bit odd, but rim diameters are identical. DieselnDust and ChrisF

Works fine, alot of Sunday cyclists use this set up for the Argus or 94.7,.. You get so much less rolling resistance with those tires pumped to 7 bar... 100Tours Posted June 11, 2020 Share I use 700C 28mm tires on a pair of 29er rims on my tandem. Works perfectly

I've hadn't had issues mounting a road tyre with tube onto a "narrow" (19mm) MTB rim, but I've had issues with trying to mount it tubeless (700x28) (Schwalbe Pro 1) onto that MTB rim. . Some MTB rims cannot take the pressure needed for narrow tyres. Having said that, I have run 30mm tubeless without problems.

cliff_ross Posted June 12, 2020 Share Did it for 94.7 2 years back... not slicks but gravel bike tyres. Looks really strange. Am sure it did the trick and rolling resistance was much better than with knobblies.
cliff_ross Posted June 12, 2020 Share Would be great to see any other pictures that you may have of this. I must agree, the look just is not what you expect it to be.
