I could go to myBB, 4x4forum or elsewhere but it works here. Also, practically speaking, if you just shut down all off-topic NCR threads/forums, then that discussion will just permeate into the other areas and hijack threads there - which is exactly what you don't want. If I understand Matt right, a big motivator for this is / was moderator resources. You are absolutely right that there are other, often really lekker things we want to talk about beyond cycling. However, in all fairness I think that the moderators would prefer to direct their limited resources to the content this Forum was created for rather than police a glorified chat room. Yes, off-topic discussions and trolling will (and do) permeate into the cycling forums but that is where the moderation in all it's force should be focused, imo. 3 hours ago, Shebeen said: Your first sentence should end with a question mark, but maybe if you were at 1000 posts you'd know that. Having been part of an completely non moderated forum, it worked for a while and then went sour. I like the idea above. edit to add: I've also been part of a heavily moderated forum because they had to keep the sponsors/advertisers happy, it went south VERY quickly and we promptly all left at the same time leaving the forum a ghost town with zero new posts for months at a time. That's the problem with forums. No one (especially grown-ups) wants to be moderated. Too much of it, and you kill off the natural flow of communication. Too little, and you risk alienating others by those that can't self-moderate. It's one of the reasons Fb groups have become so popular, anyone can have their own party, and also why so many of the traditional internet forums died out or are ghost towns. Insinuating that people are pedos is my go to defence for people that think spreading malicious rumours about certain groups is OK (like the "proof" that covid was overstated in the US because doctors and nurses were faking death certificates to get more money for their hospitals). Now I'll have to call them Specialized riders. I'm pretty sure that is worse. NickGM, RocknRolla and Wayne pudding Mol 2

That would be great but I suspect much more labor intensive and subjective than the alternative. You have to sift through a whole thread, see who triggered who, decide who is in the wrong, give them a warning...etc. It would be mentally taxing and a very time consuming for the person responsible. It's a lot cleaner to shut down an inflammatory topic.

Thing is there are no actual rules, this is just a sticky from a suggestion from one of the members, and was accepted it seems by the mods to do the job. serious mob mentality (but it sort of works). to go totally off topic, why has no one started the Specialised Bike Company? Would serve all cyclists in the parts of the world that speak English(UK) and want fancy overpriced bikes to show off at coffee shops?

Ans to be honest, the amount of posts the actually need moderation are not that many. The community can also take some responsibility and report posts that they deem inflammatory, that removes the issues of having to sift through whole threads. This used to work very well on my gaming forums back in the day. Frosty, RocknRolla and NickGM

Guest Posted June 2, 2021 Share I've noticed all the good doctors have left since the Covid thread. Those guys input off and on the bike were always helpful. porqui and Warthog
BaGearA Posted June 2, 2021 Share Here's an idea ne , and im just thinking out of my ass here Ask members to report posts that offend whatever group , 5 reports and that post gets highlighted to admin they can then decide to delete it and/or give the member a warning ban ect. Of course this relies on the community to report posts and not just type out their virtuous reply and post it. And it could also be exploited in cases where most of the participants are against one member (think quagga/sias in the cv19 threads) But it seems like it could/should take away a massive amount of the labour intensive work admin has to do. I still think this site will bleed active members this year and 2 June 2022 is gona have a BikeHub thats a hell of a lot different to what this place is now
