Jason de Caires Posted November 26, 2020 Share Hi everyone, I live in Panorama and I'm starting a new job in Maitland. I was thinking of cycling to work via Uys Krige, Giel Basson, Milton, Jakes Gerwell and Voortrekker roads. But to my knowledge these routes are not safe, especially Voortrekker. Is there a safer alternative route? Thanks,Jason

I have on occasion gone straight onto Berkley rd ... I also mainly tried to avoid Voortrekker, but take it on occasion too. Voortrekker might be busy and "vehicle" dangerous, but on the flip-side having many people around deters hijackers .... Jason de Caires Posted November 26, 2020 Share Hi Eddie, Thanks so much for the route info. I'll be working in Upper Camp rd Maitland, which is deep in Maitland and also close to the M5. I was thinking of going via Thornton and Pinelands, which will bring me to Ndabeni circle and is close to Upper Camp road. But this is quite a long detour. Jason de Caires Posted November 26, 2020 Share Hi Hamstring, So I'm assuming that you cycle via Voortrekker. Would you have to ride on the pavement/side walk when using Voortrekker? Are there few/many other cyclists on the road too?hi i have had no problem in the past from Edgmead.

You will get use to the distance in no time. Personally, safety (wide shoulder, clear road, lots of people, etc.) and scenery trumps distance any day. Twaatie Posted November 26, 2020 Share Cycling on Voortrekker is a no go in my opinion , best would be Thornton- Pinelands Jason de Caires, mikkelz and MORNE
MORNE Posted November 26, 2020 Share EddieV’s route is fine, i’ve ridden it from durbanville to observatory. It will also easily serve as ‘proof’ of flat-earth theory lol...as in it is relatively flat lol. Jason de Caires
