Bike Storage Solutions

Hi.

I need to find a way to store 4 bikes in the garage in a better way. At the moment, I am leaving them on my Thule bike rack, but i really want to pack the bike rack away and have a better way to store the bikes.

All mountain bikes.

I don't mind wall mounted or floor racks. As I am still in a rental, my preference is for a storage solution of some kind that does not involve drilling or screwing into walls etc.

There are so many options that its difficult to separate the good from the bad.

Hi Wayne

As you know I am a fan of the Steadyrack systems, which you can get from Mitre10, Evocycles (or Kiwivelo, Takapuna).

But they will require some drilling etc, so here's some alternatives that may work...

or if you have the space...

of very simplistic and way more budget friendly than the above...

Would this rack system be a temporary measure until you move into your new place?

I wonder if this combo would work?

hmmm... I havene;t had the best luck with Command strips.

I did recently get some of the extra strong Scotch double sided tape and they may work.

It'll probably peel the paint off the walls too, if one can't get a bare surface to stick it to. So that may be tricky.

Have a look at the Topeak Dual Touch setup - works like an absolute charm whilst allowing the vehicle to remain in the garage and avoid the ice and snow this time of year.

I made (long enough) brackets which hook over the roof's tie beam.  (No ceiling)

PS : I also use the Levitate bracket mentioned above, works well.  (The secure one though.)

My concern with those are if they will still hold on if the tire goes flat?

single or double garage?

I used to hang 4 x bikes off those metal J-Bend hooks from the central beam of the garage between the two cars .... mounted them towards the front in order to allow the car door to open.

Cheap and cheerfull.

Or approach the landlord and let him/her know your intentions of mounting to a wall ... and if the rack is cheap enough you can leave it for the next tenant.
