Leattman Posted January 18, 2021 Share Please riders and owners of bike racks on vehicles. The cable you purchase from a store does not safeguard you from the bike being stolen, unfortunate but a reality. First prize is to not leave your bike unattended or on a rack and think it is safe. Maybe remove the wheels, lock them in the boot and the frame etc on the rack... as a last resort. splat and ChrisF
Chingy182 Posted January 18, 2021 Share I live about 5min away from this spot and I cycle past it on my usual rides. This whole area is a hive of activity on weekends and there are always loads of people just loitering about in the road or in the parking lot. Still so many bikes left unattended. Considering how busy it actually is there, it remains amazing how nobody could see this happen Long Wheel Base and Leattman

Kelly Posted January 18, 2021 Share Hi all, We are fairly new in the game and the buzz rack locks with a key on the clamp, they cut the straps and the clamp was still "locked" so clearly they know what they are doing and we honestly believed the bikes to be secure. Our car was parked for such a short period, 10 min at max as we just grabbed a take a way coffee. When we got back to the car, the guard was sitting in the car parked next to us, and the hut was on the other side of the car. When we realised what had happened we drove in Westlake direction, but CCTV footage showed him leaving on the bike down Dalmore road. A real expensive lesson to learn! A real expensive lesson to learn! you learnt 2 lesson that day* Dont trust the locks on the bike rack* Car guards are not car guards but rather parking attendants, they have neither the skill nor the will power to put themselves in harms way to protect someone else's property. Chingy182 Posted January 18, 2021 Share Sorry this had to happen to you. I go as far as double locking my bike - which would just slow them down by about a minute or two. My faith in humanity is about as close to zero as one can get, so someone ALWAYS stays with the bikes.

A real expensive lesson to learn!Damien we were "fortunate" to learn this lesson when friends bikes were stolen off their racks .... There are many YouTube videos showing the process of stealing the bikes from these racks. 1 undo/cut the wheel strap 2 pick up the bike. Tilt it to the back, rotating the frame in the claw ... out she comes .... It takes seconds !
